We all know that social media can be a great way to get new business, but it’s often neglected or overlooked usually due to a lack of understanding on just how to use it to your advantage.

LinkedIn is one of the top platforms for generating leads and nurturing your audience, but if you don’t know what you’re doing, you’re unlikely to see the results it can deliver.

We’ve compiled our 5 top tips for upping your game on socials so you can gain more visibility and engagement which will naturally generate more interest and leads for your business.

Give value

People love free advice, and you may just have what they’re looking for. Showcase your expertise by creating knowledgeable and insightful posts, offering advice and tips to your audience. Remember who you’re creating content for, your ideal client, so be sure to focus your attention on them rather than you.

Get personal

Use your own voice and be authentic. There’s nothing worse than robotic posts that fall flat because they’re stale and uninspiring. Use your personality, your brand tone of voice, and your sense of humor to create engaging content. Find the sweet spot where personal meets professional and capitalize on it. Tell people about your life in such a way as to relate back to your business, just be careful not to make the link between the two unnecessary and irrelevant.

Start a conversation

Don’t be afraid to have an opinion. If you’re not being offensive, you’re allowed to be divisive. No one who sits on the fence is starting conversations, but if you have something to say about your industry then say it. Remember, it doesn’t have to be negative, you can tell people what you love (and people do love an ‘unpopular opinion’ post.) The more conversations that happen in your comments, the more your post gets bumped and seen which is great for increasing your visibility.

Engage with your ideal clients

Where does your ideal client hang out? Find them, check their activity, and go get involved with the same conversations. Get them used to seeing your name. Offer advice and tips, be helpful in the comments and ask questions. This way, on LinkedIn at least, when you send a connection request they’ll already be primed to accept. It’s the adage of know, like, and trust.

Mix it up

Don’t just use words; use graphics, photos, video etc. Make your content more interesting by mixing mediums. People like to consume their content in different ways so make sure there’s something for everyone. If you’re confident on camera, why not try going live? You could do top tips, a Q&A, or an FAQs session live to you audience. Don’t be afraid to try new things and see what works for you.

And finally, make sure your posts cover a range of information, optimized, engaging, entertaining, and promotional content to keep your audience interested and make it easy for them to know what you do and who you are.
