We like to work smarter not harder, and so productivity and effectiveness are top of the agenda. But, we all have days where our desire to be productive wanes in favor of procrastination and ‘busy work’ and it can be hard to focus on the goal or the task at hand.

So, we took to the internet to find some great motivational quotes to put you back in the right mindset when you’re just not feeing at the top of your game.

“Focus on being productive instead of busy.” Tim Ferriss

Tim Ferriss is an American entrepreneur and lifestyle guru who knows a thing or two about using time wisely and effectively.

There are a vast number of people out there who consider being busy a sign of success, but what Tim is getting at is that being busy doesn’t necessarily equate to being productive. Focus on getting things done, not doing lots of things.

“My goal is no longer to get more done, but rather to have less to do.” Francine Jay

Francine Jay, otherwise known as Miss Minimalist, is a successful author who seeks to simplify in order to focus on the things that matter.

We could all take a page from Francine’s book by reviewing what we do and how we do it and removing that which is unnecessary from our lives and businesses.

“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” Walt Disney

We all know who Walt Disney is and can’t deny his success.

Many of us tend to discuss our plans, talk about what we want to achieve and what we’re going to do but Walt is telling us to take action. Nothing will get done unless the first step is taken.

“Action is the foundational key to all success.” Pablo Picasso

Speaking of taking action, Picasso knew how to get things done, producing around 147,800 pieces of work throughout his lifetime. Take action and you will see progress and results.

“Efficiency is doing things right. Effectiveness is doing the right things.” Peter Drucker

Peter Drucker was an Austrian-American management consultant and educator who offered an abundance of wise words during his life.

We can all be efficient, we can do things correctly but to be effective, we need to be doing the right things. Again, this boils down to reviewing what you’re doing and what is working, removing anything that’s not effective from your activities and instead focusing on the right activities.

“The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.” Stephen Covey

Stephen Covey was an American businessman and educator, most famed for his book ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.’

This piece of advice, as we understand it, is all about looking at the bigger picture. Most of us have busy schedules and tend to prioritize things that are urgent rather then things that are important. Look at the activities you need to do in order to move forward and reach your goal quicker – these are your priorities. Now schedule them in before scheduling anything else. Those are the tasks that matter most.

“Don’t confuse activity with productivity. Many people are simply busy being busy.” Robin Sharma

Robin Sharma is a leadership expert and author most famed for his bestseller, ‘The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari.’

Hands up if you’re guilty of simply being busy being busy! We’ve all fallen prey to this at some point or another in our lives and it’s fair to say activity doesn’t necessarily equal productivity. The theme is apparent, looking at what exactly you’re doing and how it benefits your progress is key.

“If you don’t pay appropriate attention to what has your attention, it will take more of your attention than it deserves.” David Allen

David Allen is an American productivity and time management consultant.

He’s telling us to review and take action. If we blindly continue doing what we’re doing rather than being mindful of how we’re spending our time and what on, that time will be consumed by the things that aren’t getting us anywhere.

“Great acts are made up of small deeds.” Lao Tzu

Lao Tzu was an ancient Chinese philosopher who left writings that are still relevant today.

Focusing on one thing at a time and chipping away at your goal will provide progress. It all adds up. So, no matter how small that first step is, one must take it in order to eventually reach the destination.

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Wayne Gretzky

Wayne Gretzky is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and coach.

This quote gets used time and time again, and it’s easy to understand why. If you don’t go for it, you won’t achieve it. It’s that simple.
